Air To Water Heat Pumps

Air-to-water heat pumps have sky-rocketed in popularity among residential and commercial property owners in recent years. And it's easy to see why. They're not only longer lasting and more energy efficient, but they're far more sustainable, replacing the traditional gas or oil boiler with a renewable energy source.

If you plan on investing in an air-to-water heat pump, we have plenty of different options that you can pick from. But before you go out and browse through the different air-to-water heat pumps, we'd first like to talk to you about the benefits and features of our units and the different factors to consider before buying one.

Benefits of Air-to-Water Heat Pumps

There are many benefits to opting for an air-to-water heat pump system. Some of the advantages that are worthwhile mentioning include:

Environmentally Friendly
In comparison to fuel-based heating systems, air-to-water heat pumps produce far less emissions. As a result, your carbon footprint will be significantly lower without compromising on your comfort at home.

Long Lifespan
Air-to-water heat pumps, especially those from more premium brands such as Bosch will last for decades. As a result, air-to-water heat pumps are the far better and longer-lasting alternative to gas boilers and other types of heating systems.

Consistent Heating Performance
The large majority of air-to-water heat pumps come with smart thermostats, which allow you to set your desired indoor temperature and forget about it. Once the temperature is set, your heat pump system will take care of the rest and provide consistent heating performance with no interruption.

Core Features of Our Air-to-Water Heat Pumps

Every air-to-water heat pump unit we sell is jam-packed with features. Some of the core features that you can expect from your unit include:

High Energy Efficiency
Air-to-water heat pumps are renowned for their high energy efficiency and ability to reduce your energy bills as a result. The air-to-water heat pumps that you'll come across on this page are all industry-leading as far as energy efficiency goes, some offering energy efficiency levels as high as A+++.

Eligible for Government Incentives
Each air source heat pump we sell on our website or in-store may be eligible for a government scheme, such as the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). Taking advantage of these schemes can drastically reduce the overall cost of your air-to-water heating system and its installation.

Low Noise Levels
Every air-to-water heat pump that you'll come across on this page was designed to operate silently, ensuring that the peace within your property remains uninterrupted. To give you a point of reference, some of the units on our website operate as low as 54 dB.

Factors to Consider When Choosing an Air-to-Water Heat Pump

Choosing the right air source heat pump for hot water is key. Buying a unit with the wrong capacity, for example, can either lead to unnecessarily high energy bills or it can struggle with maintaining the required indoor temperature. To avoid that, here are a few factors that you should consider when choosing your air-to-water heat pump, including:

  • Noise levels
  • Hot water demand
  • Climate compatibility
  • Installation requirements
  • Control and monitoring features
  • Heating capacity and efficiency
  • The energy efficiency incentives you plan on taking advantage of (if any)

FAQs

What Is A Heat Pump?
A heat pump is a system that transfers heat from one location to another. In the case of air source heat pumps, these systems are designed to extract heat from the outside air and use the generated energy to heat the water before cycling it through your indoor heating system.

How Do Air-to-Water Heat Pumps Work With Radiators?
In most basic terms, air-to-water heat pumps use hot water as the medium for transferring heat from the heat pump to the radiators. The overall process, from start to finish looks something like this:

  • The air source heat pump extracts heat from the outside air
  • Via a heat exchanger, the extracted heat energy is transferred to the water, which passes through the hot water cylinder
  • The hot water then passes through your home's radiators and underfloor heating system
  • The water then returns to the heat pump to absorb more heat energy, continuing the heating cycle

Do Air-to-Water Heat Pumps Use A Lot Of Electricity?
That would depend on the air-to-water heat pump system you opt for, the size of your property, and your usage patterns. While we don't know how big your property is or what your usage patterns look like, there is one thing we can guarantee. Every air-to-water heat pump that you'll come across on this page is of high quality, from a reputable brand, and most importantly - very energy efficient.

How Long Does an Air-to-Water Heat Pump Last?
The average lifespan of an air-to-water heat pump in the UK is between 15 and 25 years. In some cases, they can last longer or less. The biggest predictors of lifespan when it comes to air-to-water heat pumps include the quality of the heat pump installation, how often and well the unit is maintained, usage patterns, and of course, the brand or model of heat pump you go for.

Should I Leave My Air-to-Water Heat Pump On All The Time?
It's not necessary. Most modern air-to-water heat pumps have programmable thermostats, which allow you to schedule the operation of your heat pump based on your needs. That way, whether it's day or night, winter or summer, your heat pump will work when and if needed to maintain your desired level of temperature inside your home.

What’s The Return Policy on Air-to-Water Heat Pumps?
We have a fairly lenient return policy. If you are not satisfied with your air-to-water heat pump, you may return it in its original packaging within 30 days and get a full refund. Please note that the unit must not be used to qualify for a full refund. For more information, please refer to our refund policy page.

What Is Your Delivery Charge?
Our delivery fee will depend on the total value of your order and your location. For orders under £150, our delivery fee is just £7.50 plus VAT. But since you're looking to buy an air-to-water heat pump, if you decide to purchase one, the delivery fee will be £12.50 plus VAT. This price applies to all orders over £150 anywhere in mainland UK.

If you live in London's Congestion Zone, an additional £9.00 fee will apply. If you live on the Isle of Wight, your delivery charge will be £33.60 plus VAT.

How Do Air-to-Water Heat Pumps Work During the Winter?
The exact way your air-to-water heat pump will work during the winter will depend on the unit you buy. Generally speaking, during the winter months, heat pumps work as normal.

They continue to extract heat from the outside air and use that energy to warm the water in your indoor heating system. This water can then be circulated through your radiators, underfloor heating systems, hot water taps, showers, and more.

Please note that each air-to-water heat pump has a different operational capacity during cold temperatures, so please take the climate you live in into consideration before purchasing a unit.

How Do I Know If a Heat Pump Is Suitable For My Property?
Heat pumps are all about energy efficiency, and one way to know if a heat pump is suitable for your property is to consider a few different details. They include:

  • When your home was built
  • Whether or not the outer walls and roof of your property are insulated
  • Whether your property has single, double, or triple-glazed windows
  • The overall size of your property and the number of rooms that need to be heated

If you are unsure about whether or not your property is suitable for a heat pump or what type of heat pump you should go for, please contact us at your earliest convenience.
